KC Weekend Neighborhood Edition: Farmers’ Markets Galore!

It’s set to be another scorcher of a weekend in Kansas City, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying what’s left of summer. One of my favorite summer weekend activities is heading to a local farmers’ market. There is always so much to see, taste and experience.

Right now you can find some of the freshest and tastiest produce available all year long. Here are some fruits and vegetable to look for at your local farmers’ market right now!:

  • Berries
  • Corn
  • Green beans
  • Melons
  • Peaches
  • Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Tomato varieties, including heirloom
  • Watermelon
  • And more!

Besides getting your pick of the best locally grown produce, you can also find great baked goods and artisan pieces from Kansas City area small businesses. These are usually fresh and unique. They make great hostess gifts!

Many times farmers’ markets also have live music and activities for kids and families. And a new trend I’ve been seeing is the addition of food trucks! This way you can eat something made fresh and local while you buy local. I think it’s a great concept.

Here’s a list of area farmers’ markets throughout the Kansas City metro area. If you find another I didn’t list here that you love, let me know in the comments below or on Facebook! I’m always on the lookout to try a new location.

Have a great weekend everyone!
